An individual abused as a child is considered an adult survivor of child abuse. This abuse may have a long-term effect on the person’s life. Typically, the victims of abuse will not discuss the abuse with others while it was occurring. In some cases, the individual may deal with this issue as an adult. Many adults with psychiatric disorders may have been abused or sexually abused. Adult survivors have a combination of symptoms, suspicious, eating disorders, substance abuse, Post-traumatic stress syndrome, and self-mutilation. Often, persons sexually abused are emotionally abused. This book focused on adult survivors of abuse. The Theoretical Frameworks based on scholarly views of adult survivors of abuse are discussed.
