Description
Domestic violence is also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, battering, family violence, and intimate partner violence. The complexity of domestic violence in the African American community is due to cultural, poverty, and socioeconomic barriers. The church can play a pivotal role in promoting spirituality in identifying and assisting the treatment and resources of the African American families experiencing domestic violence. Historically, the family has been the safest and protected place for family members, however, the home is now the most dangerous place for victims. The author developed a model: African American Family: The Multifaced Model Addressing Domestic Violence in the African American Family in the United States. This model is useful in viewing the factors impacting the domestic of the American family in the United States and strategies for improvement. The Role of the African American church in addressing domestic violence will be explored. Also, spiritual strategies for healing for victims of domestic violence are discussed.
